Most updates to Lightroom Classic have no effect on Excire Search. However, with every major version jump of Lightroom Classic (e.g. update from version 12 to version 13) and rarely with minor updates, Lightroom Classic creates a copy of the catalog that must be responded to.
When Lightroom Classic creates a copy of the catalog for an update, it contains the new version number. For example, “My Catalog.lrcat” becomes “My Catalog-v13.lrcat”. The Excire Search database is located in the directory of the catalog and has its own name with an additional extension (“My Catalog Excire.excat”). However, the Excire Search database is not copied when the catalog is copied.
In order for Excire Search to find the database with the new catalog, it must also be copied by Excire Search. To do this, Excire Search displays a message when starting Lightroom Classic with the new catalog, with the option of specifying the location of the database:
Select “Search for Database...” here and then select the database with the name of your previous catalog (in the example above: “My Catalog Excire.excat”). Excire Search now copies this database and names the copy according to the new catalog name (in the example: “My Catalog-v13 Excire.excat”).
If "Create new database" was selected by mistake in this message, you can also search for the original database later. To do this, go to the Lightroom Classic Plug-In Manager (File -> Plug-In Manager), select "Excire Search", click on "Reset or restore database" and then select "Restore backup". Now select the original Excire Search database instead of a backup.
