Short description: Some users of Excire Foto and Excire Search on macOS 15.8 experienced issues where photos could not be analyzed or initialized. Apple's update to macOS 15.8.1 resolves this issue.
Why this happens
Apple introduced a bug with macOS 15.8 that affected photo analysis and initialization in Excire Foto and Excire Search for some users. In the cases known to us, this showed up differently:
For one Excire Search user, no images could be read at all.
For one Excire Foto user, problems occurred specifically during the initialization of CR3 files, which could be traced back to macOS's built-in RAW processing.
Solution
Install Apple's update to macOS 15.8.1 (build 24H32). This fixes the underlying bug, allowing Excire Foto and Excire Search to read and initialize your photos normally again.
To update macOS:
Open System Settings → General → Software Update.
Install the available update to macOS 15.8.1.
Restart your Mac after installation.
Launch Excire Foto or Excire Search and run initialization again.
