Excire Foto does not assign names fully automatically without you checking the results. But you do not have to name each photo individually: use the people search to find all photos of a person and assign the name to all selected photos in a single step.
How to assign a name to many photos at once:
- Select a photo in which the person is clearly visible and click "Find People". In the search dialog, select the face of the person and start the search.
- Remove any photos from the results in which the person was recognized by mistake.
- Select all remaining photos with CTRL+A (Mac: CMD+A).
- In the right-hand panel, click "Faces" and enter the name in the "Who is this?" field, or choose an existing name. The name is assigned to all selected photos at the same time.
Why not fully automatic? Face recognition is very reliable, but not 100% error-free. A quick check before assigning prevents incorrect names that would be tedious to fix later.
Tips:
- Find photos that don't have a name yet: Start the people search and, under "Filter by Keywords", select the person's name. Click "Use photos without these keywords". You will then only see the photos that are still missing the name and can add it in one step as described above.
- Check uncertain matches: Double-click a photo to open the single preview; the comparison view lets you evaluate two photos side by side.
- Excire Foto 2024 and earlier: These versions do not yet support naming faces. Instead, assign the name as a keyword to the photos found, again for all selected photos at once.
